You know what it’s like to be looking for a spatula and not being able to find one because you can’t see past all the clutter in your kitchen. You know what it feels like to spend more time cleaning up than cooking or dining. Now, you want something better!

Before you organize anything you really must declutter first.

So let's assume that everything you have in your kitchen:

- belongs in the kitchen

- is used often or at least within the past year

Everything else should not be in your kitchen! It either belongs in another room, to someone else or should be disposed of one way or the other after all:

You can't organize clutter. You can only get rid of it.

Let's get started!

Your kitchen is an amazing space, but it can be difficult to know how to use all of the available space effectively. Did I hear you say, “I don't have any extra space!”? No problem! Here are 7 clever tools that will help you organize and maximize storage space no matter what size your kitchen is

1. What to do with boxes of foil and pot lids?

Find Storage in Your Kitchen Cabinet Doors

Install slim shelves so you have easy access to boxes of foil and plastic wrap without taking up any valuable counter space! No more rooting around on hands and knees just to get one thing out because there's not enough room elsewhere.

Racks are a great way to give your kitchen more space. They're also handy when you need access in tight spots! You can hang pots and pan lids from the inside of cabinet doors for easy storage with minimal effort.

2. Need more Counter Space!

Get Creative With Sink Spaces

Is your counter space the size of a postage stamp? Or are you an expansive cook who likes a lot of space? It makes sense to find new ways of expanding your counter space. One great idea is to use your cutting board as an extension of your counter. Get a cutting board that fits over your sink when not in use so you have extra room on hand AND can do prep work with ease! You can find one’s with built-in colanders - which are perfect for cutting meats, fish, vegetables, and fruits. Just rinse and drain items right over the sink as you trim or cut them up.

3. Stop Pantry Pile Up!

Use Plastic Bins for Kitchen Storage

If you've been putting off sorting through the piles of bulk items that have accumulated in your pantry, it's time to take action. Try using standardized rectangular shaped plastic bins which stack nicely on shelves once filled with various foodstuffs. Decant anything excess from cabinet areas whenever necessary. Air tight containers help keep dry food fresher longer. Clear containers also make it easier to see what’s inside and find exactly what you need. Remember to keep ingredients organized by type instead of being thrown together haphazardly throughout cabinets. Nothing beats having everything nicely organized right where you can find them.

4. Deep cabinets are hiding your appliances!

Add Rolling shelves to deep kitchen cabinets

Not enough storage spaces in your kitchen? Do your deep cabinets make it difficult for you find things at the back of the cabinet? Having rolling shelves with low sides will help maximize space by letting items be easily accessible while still being organized! Rolling kitchen shelves are especially helpful for those heavier items like pots and pans. They make things easy to see, access, and store without cluttering up your countertops.

5. Coffee Mug Avalanche!

There's a Hook for that!

You know the problem with mugs; they take up shelf space and don't stack well. But you can solve both those problems by installing hooks under your cabinets or inside a cupboard, then hanging the handles on them so everything is neat!

6. Nowhere to Store your knives safely!

7. Cooking Utensils Getting you Down!

Try Kitchen Crocks.

Have you ever been in the middle of frying eggs and had to frantically search through your tools for the flipper before the eggs burned? It's frustrating, isn't it? Why not keep all these handy utensils close at hand. Resist the temptation to cram everything into one drawer, the varied shapes of cooking utensils make it a logistical nightmare. Organizing your cooking utensils in utensil crocks will keep your most-used tools easily accessible and organized. Be sure to get sturdy easy-to-clean utensils crocks to keep even the more challenging utensils in view, neat and tidy.

You love to cook and spend a lot of time in the kitchen. It's where all the best food happens! But, as is true for many of us, it can be challenging to utilize your space effectively or find enough space for everything. The good news is that there are some really great ways to use vertical space, expand counter space with cutting boards or hooks for coffee mugs, store items where they're needed so they're easy to clean up after cooking (and keep your counters clear!), and more!

Final words.

Your kitchen can be a place that supports you and connects you with family and friends. It is the heart of your home, where nourishment for body and spirit happens. Transforming your kitchen is a process and begins with clutter clearing. In your kitchen, take a look at where you are. Make a plan for where you want to go. Take the steps to get there by organizing kitchen cupboards, kitchen countertops, kitchen fridge, kitchen essentials - all of which will help create an inviting space in which to cook or just spend time together as a family.
